How we check prices
Last updated:
Every price on PriceRook has a source and a time. Here's where they come from and what our labels mean.
Game prices
- Source: the Steam store's public pricing, in USD. Each deal page shows when we last checked.
- Refresh: every few hours. The Discord bot checks watched games on its own schedule and DMs you when your target is hit.
- "% off": this is Steam's own discount against its listed price. We show it, but a big percentage alone doesn't prove a good deal.
Our own price history
We save every price we fetch. Until we hold at least 30 days of our own data for a game, its page says "Tracking since [date]" instead of claiming a low. We don't buy or copy price history from other sites, so the history you see is ours.
Hardware prices
We only show a hardware price if it comes from an official retailer feed or someone checked it by hand at the store, with the date it was checked. We don't display hand-typed Amazon prices. Where we can't show a verified price, we say "check price".
Spotting fake discounts
A sale is only good if the price is good. We compare against price history, not just the crossed-out price, and when we check a bundle we price its parts separately.
Mistakes
Prices change fast and we can be wrong. Always confirm at the store. If you spot an error, email atlas@pricerook.com.
